WeTheNorth

PGP School · Lesson 6 of 13

Importing the WeTheNorth signing key safely

You import a key once and rely on it many times, so do it carefully.

Keys and fingerprints · updated

1Copy the key block

Copy the whole public key block, from the BEGIN line to the END line, from a source you trust.

2Import it

Paste it into Kleopatra (Import from clipboard) or run gpg --import with the saved file.

3Confirm the fingerprint

Compare the fingerprint shown after import with the one published by at least two independent references.

4Certify locally

Once confirmed, certify the key locally so your tool shows signatures from it as trusted without extra prompts.

Lesson summary

Import the WeTheNorth key once, confirm its fingerprint from two sources and certify it locally.
